Help, answers and a human

Questions about Crop Goblin for Mac: purchases, permissions, shortcuts and saving.

When can I get it?

Soon. Crop Goblin is waiting on App Store review. Join the waitlist and the goblin emails you once, on launch day, and then forgets your address.

Is it really free?

Yes. Every tool, Shiny GIF and video exports, copy, save and drag are free, forever. Free captures wear the Pearl frame with a small engraved Crop Goblin wordmark in the frame's bottom edge, never over your screenshot.

What does Pro unlock?

The other frames (Black Pearl, Green Goblin, Rose and Sky), turning the frame off entirely, and no wordmark. Pro is a one-time $9.99 in-app purchase with Family Sharing, so everyone in your family gets it too.

Is there a subscription?

No. Pay once and Pro is yours. No account, no renewal, no monthly fee.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia or later, Apple silicon or Intel.

Why does it ask for Screen Recording permission?

macOS requires it for any app that captures the screen. Crop Goblin only reads your screen when you press the capture shortcut or choose Capture from its menu, and captures stay on your Mac.

Does it upload my screenshots?

No. Crop Goblin makes no network requests of its own and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking. Your screenshots go only where you put them: the clipboard, a file you save, or an app you drag them into.

What is Shiny mode?

Shiny mode exports your annotated screenshot as a looping GIF or video where a light sweeps across the holographic frame and redaction bars, like a foil trading card. It's rendered on your Mac's GPU. It works with any frame, including the free Pearl frame.

Can I change the shortcut?

Yes. The default is Shift-Command-2, and you can record any other shortcut in Settings.

Where do my screenshots get saved?

Wherever you choose. Press Return to copy and close, Command-S to save a PNG, or drag the image out of the editor. You can set a default save folder in Settings, and the menu bar's Recent Saves remembers your last ten files without keeping copies.

Is the redaction safe?

Yes. Redaction bars become fully opaque pixels in every export, snapped outward to whole pixels. There's no blur for anyone to undo.

How do I get Pro on my other Mac?

Install Crop Goblin from the App Store with the same Apple Account and choose Restore Purchase in Settings.

Does it record video or scrolling screenshots?

Not yet. Crop Goblin captures stills of an area or a window, one display at a time. Shiny exports animate the light on a still screenshot; they don't record your screen.

Still stuck?

Email hello@cropgoblin.com. A real person answers, usually within a day or two. If something looks wrong, a screenshot helps (marked up, ideally).
